Tips To Protect Your Eyes This Summer
The summer season brings along several challenges and risks for the eyes like sand, bright sun, and outdoor activity. Although eye pain and injuries can happen at any time during the whole year; however, the risk is higher in the summers. Here are some tips by which one can protect his eyes during this summer.
Grab a good pair of sunglasses
For protecting eyes during summer, sunglasses are an essential item. Using high-quality sunglasses will reduce the amount of sunlight glare which will result in less eye pain and less squinting. Sunglasses can also help in preventing blurry vision, headaches, migraines, and other effects of overstrained eyes.
Using Goggles while swimming
It is a fact that uncovered eyes get greatly damaged by water exposure, especially during swimming since chlorine is used to kill germs present in the swimming pool water. However, what one does not know is that chlorine causes itchiness, irritation, and bloodshot eyes. Research has also shown that exposure of the eyes to chlorine can damage the epithelial cells of the cornea.
Remove contact lenses before getting into the water
If you get into the water without taking off your contact lenses, the bacteria and other micro-organisms can get attached to the contact lens’ surface or get stuck between your eyes and the contacts. This can greatly increase the possibility of a dangerous infection, damage to the cornea, or even vision loss. One can also use watertight prescription goggles if you can not get into the water without using any corrective eyewear.
Use Protective Eyewear at work and play
One must use protective eyewear while doing activities that involve exposure to harmful chemicals or flying debris. This can protect your eyes from any accidental or unexpected life-long damage.
Wash your hands frequently and do not rub your eyes
It is already strictly recommended to wash your hands frequently and avoid rubbing your eyes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But, there are more reasons why you should follow these rules. Our eyes are sensitive to various infections and Eye Rubbing can make the effect of allergies worse or even damage your eyes if any sand particle or some other particle enters into them. One can use saline drops if you feel there is a constant need to rub the eyes.
Enjoy this summer but do not delay your Eyecare
Whenever you have to step out this summer season, make sure you wear eye protection. It is a high priority at this time. If you feel any eye strain, eye pain, or any other symptom of eye problem, see an experienced ophthalmologist at the right time. Remember, you have got only one set of eyes and you cannot afford any permanent damage to them.
Having a constant sweaty face in summers is a big problem. This issue has become worse in the time of COVID-19 when one has to wear a mask the whole day. It’s better to change your mask frequently. If it is not feasible for everyone to change, there are some possibilities to sanitize your mask. Sanitized masks can be reused which would also reduce the cost of healthcare organizations.
